Are There Flying Saucers at the Bottom of the Baltic Sea?

Last week, CNN and some UK papers reported on a large disk-shaped object that was found at the bottom of the Baltic Sea between Finland and Sweden. The Daily Mail’s article on the discovery was titled ‘ It's either the Millennium Falcon or a gateway to hell': Shipwreck hunters find mysterious object at bottom of Baltic Sea.

Peter Lindberg, a Swedish submarine entrepreneur who runs a company called Ocean Explorer, was not at all reluctant to speak about the discovery to the media. The news is not actually fresh, however, as it initially surfaced in July 2011.There might be a logical reason for bringing it up again: Mr Lindberg and his team failed to get enough funds last year and now they are hoping to obtain more cash for hauling up the object, whatever it might be.

According to Daily Mail, “ For now, Ocean Explorers have to wait to find out until chaotic water conditions calm down in order to allow a manned expedition to happen…Additionally, they are looking for financial backers to help aid the cost of the discovery process, and are calling for interested investors on their website.”

Using sonar, Lindberg and his Ocean Explorer crew found a massive disk-shaped object. It has a diameter of 60 metres (180 feet) and a part that the media described as a tail that is 400 metres (1200 feet) long. Mr Lindberg also says that they found another similar object some 200 metres (600 feet) from their initial discovery.

Some have speculated that the mysterious object is a UFO or unidentified flying object that has sunk to the seabed. This view stems from the belief that there are intelligent beings in other solar systems and that they have acquired advanced technology, enabling them to solve the problems that make interstellar travel practically impossible.

The nearest star outside our solar system, Proxima Centauri, is 4.2 light years from us. A space ship travelling at the speed of light would thus take 4.2 years to reach us. Moreover, travelling from one solar system to another at speeds approaching the speed of light is extremely dangerous as a collision with even a tiny speck of dust could easily lead to a fatal explosion.

Most researchers would agree that travelling from one solar system to another is impossible. Yet some people would claim that they have seen a flying saucer.

While most UFO sightings are most likely false alarms, such as meteors or aircraft, a small percentage of them might defy this explanation. Rather than being physical objects, they share some characteristics with phenomena occurring in spiritist séances. The friendly space aliens say that they have come to save our planet from destruction. Their message resembles new age ideology in which nature has usurped the role of God.

What is interesting is that these aliens almost never appear to Christians who take the Bible seriously.

So, whatever the objects at the bottom of the Baltic Sea are, they most probably do not hail from the Proxima Centauri system or elsewhere in outer space.
