When Spiritual Laws Caught Muammar Gaddafi

Many dictators and terrorists have assumed that they are above all laws. However, history tells us that they were not. Nicolae Ceausescu, Saddam Hussein, Osama bin Laden and Muammar Gaddafi all met their end in a way that can only be characterised as horrific.

For all of these men human life was cheap when they had all power over their subjects. They thought that they could dispose of their enemies and rivals with impunity. What they failed to understand, though, was that there are spiritual laws that no one can evade.

“Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap,” the apostle Paul wrote in Galatians 6:7. The Old Testament prophet Hosea expressed a similar thought in an even more vivid way: “They sow the wind, and reap the whirlwind.” (Hosea 8:7).

And the Lord Jesus Himself warned of the danger of resorting to violence: “For all who take the sword will perish by the sword.” (Matthew 26:52).

“Whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets,” (Matthew 7:12) Jesus advised His listeners.

This is something that Gaddafi and many other despots failed to understand. Spiritual laws work whether we like it or not. By doing good to our fellowmen we can eventually bring blessings to ourselves, but by doing evil, even violent deeds, our deeds will catch us in the end.
