The Cat That Likes Bible Stories

True stories are often more unbelievable than fictional ones, at least when it comes to cats. The latest cat story I read about had an intriguing biblical dimension.

The heroine of this story is a cat called Milla who lives in Australia with her owner Mrs Martta Korhonen. Like most cats, Milla is a creature of habit.

Each morning and evening, when Mrs Korhonen reads the Bible aloud, Milla sits at her feet, listening. If she takes any other book than the Bible in her hand, the cat will ignore her and keep away.

Recently, Mrs Korhonen came home late at night, feeling that she was too tired to read the Bible. "I told Milla that now Mammy is too tired to read", she said and gave the cat food. She put out the lights in the living room and went to her bedroom.

Milla did not like this at all, however. Miaowing loudly, she followed Mrs Korhonen, who asked her what was the matter. Instead of replying, Milla tiptoed back to the living room, and sat by the chair where she used to sit and listen to the Bible.

Mrs Korhonen had to follow her and put on the lights. She took the Bible and began reading. Milla stopped miaowing and before long she jumped on her bed, feeling satisfied.

There might well be a spiritual lesson for us in this story that as far as I know is entirely factual. To be a bit more specific, it might have to do with our desire to read God's Word regularly. After all, the Living Word is also called the Bread of Life.

Do we really hunger for this bread that nourishes us?
