Jewelry Store Owner Repels Would-Be Robber By Invoking the Name of Jesus

For jewelry store owner Marian Johnson Chadwick, Christianity is no mere theory. One January night, when she was about to close her Extravagant Necessities store at Frisco, Texas, a hooded gunman walked in and pointed his gun at her, demanding her money.

The would-be robber was in for a big surprise, however. Chadwick, who was serving her last customer, refused to budge. "In the name of Jesus, I command you to get out of my store," she yelled at the man who then turned his gun on Kathy Vereen, the customer Chadwick was serving.

The robber demanded both women to hit the floor. They stood their ground while Chadwick kept on shouting and gesticulating to the man who had started to hesitate and took a few steps backward.

Realising that he had picked the wrong victims, the man backed off and hurried out of the store. The entire episode was caught on surveillance camera.

In His farewell speech recorded in the 16th chapter of the Gospel of Mark, Jesus mentioned many things that the disciples would do in His name. While repelling robbers was definitely not one of them, the Frisco, Texas, incident suggests that there is still power in the name of Jesus.
