Barack Obama’s Carbon Footprint is Bigger Than You’d Expect

When in the late 19th century European explorers ventured into the heartland of what was then known as the dark continent, they almost always had a long retinue of servants, scouts, cooks, porters and followers walking with them on the dangerous winding paths.
Right from the start of the colonial adventure, the locals could see that the foreign explorers were men of prestige and great power.
In contrast, the USA and China, both of which never ruled over much African soil, are free to make a public display of their wealth and power.
When US president Barack Obama recently flew to Copenhagen to attend the Climate Change Conference, his retinue far surpassed that of any 19th century European explorer. Flying over the Atlantic with him were three Boeing 747s (one for Mr. Obama, a spare plane and one for Mr. Gibbs and the media), two C-17 Globemasters and three C-141 Starlifters. Yes, that makes seven (7) airplanes.
Mr. Obama also took nineteen (19) automobiles with him. As far as I know, none of them was a low-exhaust model such as a Fiat Punto.
He also took a helicopter with him (in one of the Globemasters).
Compared to Mr. Obama, the 19th century European explorers had a rather modest carbon footprint and such a trivial issue would not have interested them at all.
However, the times, they have a-changed at least to some extent.
Mr. Obama's trip to Copenhagen and back produced 3, 820 metric tons of carbon dioxide. It is as much as 450 Danes produce in a whole year and more than I or probably any reader of this article will ever manage to produce.
But as the President knows, the fight to curb carbon dioxide emissions is definitely not an easy one.

Top-level comments on this article: (2 total)Stories like these continue to be one of the stumbling blocks to people taking the global warmists seriously. Until the climate evangelists address the contradiction of polluting in such huge quantities while condemning pollution, the other side will only be emboldened to point out the boldface hypocrisy. All they need to do is employ video conferencing technology, and they can quickly diffuse accusations of "do as I say, not as I do." ~mogama~Thanks Mogama. I suspect that many politicians (not just Obama) and others (Al Gore etc.) seem to regard conferences and summits as venues for increasing their visibility. Sorry for the long delay in responding.Joel
yea..no kidding..he promised all this stuff..I guess thats what we get for going blindly left...nothing wrong with left, but blindly left is just as dangerous as blindly rightThanks. Yes, its politics as usual, regardless of party affiliation. And there seems to be one set of rules for the guys with big feet and another for the ones with smaller feet - even when it comes to carbon footprints.
