What Sparrows Taught Me About Trusting God

Some time ago, as I looked out of my office window, I saw a group of young sparrows frolicking on the roof of our neighbor's house. First they dived into a drainpipe that was half full of water and then shook themselves dry. Then they would take another dip. And again they dried themselves. They were clearly enjoying their water sports.
The sparrows were certainly not worrying about the winter that would come in a few months. The carefree little brown birds were making Jesus' teaching on worrying real to me:
In another context, Jesus spoke about the futility of worrying. When teaching on the significance of trust in God, He said:
Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? (Matthew 6:25-27)
The little sparrows taught me a big lesson: If God keeps count of sparrows and instructed us to learn about trusting Him by looking at birds, why on earth do I stubbornly keep on worrying about trivial issues?
