Predicting the Future The Biblical Way

  Predicting the future is not always easy. Just ask the experts who failed to see the present economic downturn coming. But there is a form of prediction that has been shown to be incredibly accurate.

 This type of prediction is biblical prophecy. When we look at the life of Christ and compare it to what the Old Testament prophets foretold hundreds of years before His earthly life, we ought to be full of amazement.

 If we are intellectually honest, that is.

 Micah (5:2) prophesied the incarnation and the birthplace of the Messiah:

 But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah,
Though you are little among the thousands of Judah,
Yet out of you shall come forth to Me
The One to be Ruler in Israel,
Whose goings forth are from of old,
From everlasting
.

 Isaiah prophesied incredibly accurate details about Jesus' death. An entire chapter (53) describes His suffering and death, including the fact that He was buried in a rich man's grave.

 David in the Psalms predicted the crucifixion, a Roman method of executing criminals, as well as some other details about Jesus' death  in Psalm 22:

 The congregation of the wicked has enclosed Me.
They pierced My hands and My feet;
I can count all My bones.
They look and stare at Me.
They divide My garments among them,
And for My clothing they cast lots.

 King David wrote this 1000 years before Christ. Stoning was the Jewish method of executing criminals. Rome was founded some 250 years after David's time but he already foresaw His death and His betrayal by a close friend (Judas Iscariot) in Psalm 41, and, what is most significant, Jesus' resurrection in Psalm 16.

 Zechariah foresaw Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem as the Prince of Peace:

 Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion!
Shout, O daughter of Jerusalem!
Behold, your King is coming to you;
He is just and having salvation,
Lowly and riding on a donkey,
A colt, the foal of a donkey.

 Zechariah predicted His subsequent betrayal for 30 pieces of silver and the eventual fate of the coins:

 There would be much more to add but I hope this has whetted your appetite to look for more fulfilled prophesy in the Bible.
