Will Tea Parties Bring About a Real Revolution For a Troubled America?

Remember what happened in the Ukraine in 2004? Millions of people in the former Soviet republic protested in the capital Kiev in sub-zero temperatures. Day after day they marched in protest of the bad behaviour of the socialist government that had absolutely refused to listen to their grievances.

The protesters were dissatisfied with the widespread corruption, lack of freedom, vote rigging and the totalitarian tactics of the leaders, such as the then Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych who was declared President in elections that turned out to fraudulent.

The Orange Revolution was a grass-roots movement. The Ukrainians had had enough of haughty politics that ignored the blight of the people. A peaceful revolution, it brought down the pro-Moscow regime and forced the country's Supreme Court to declare the election results null and void and to call for new elections in which Viktor Yushchenko eventually became President.

Something similar might also be brewing in the USA. Since Rick Santelli first suggested having a Chicago Tea Party in protest of the "bad behaviour" of the government, the idea has spread and keeps on spreading in spite of the relative silence of the mainstream media.

Alas, the Obama administration seems to have lost it way. Massive bailouts have resulted in panic that is spreading throughout the world.

Remember the lesson of the Ukraine: When politicians refuse to listen to the people they ought to be accountable to, their time in office is coming to an end. But let us hope and pray that this will not lead to bloodshed.
